In 2019, I created the concept for a photo series inspired by the small instances and anomalies of life. The small things that do not occur often, but frequently enough to classify them as an uncommonly common thing. For example, sometimes your sock slips off of your heel, to the middle of your foot while you walk, or you smile and your lips are dry and get caught to your gums. The idea behind this project was to point out that humans all experience these small nuisances no matter our walk of life.
This year in 2020, I adapted this project by changing it slightly to the Uncommonly Common Human Phenomena: Corona. This pandemic has changed how we do things. What may have seemed uncommon 5 months ago, is something that has become the new normal. For example, situations surrounding quarantine, wearing masks, gloves and social distancing. I decided to make an Instagram account (@theuncommonlycommon) to document these occurrences, inviting the public to have an interactive role in this project.
